Kano suspends March environmental sanitation for Sallah celebration

Published on March 28, 2025 at 09:08 AM

The Kano State Government has suspended the end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise for March 2025 in honor of the upcoming Sallah celebration.
Dr. Dahiru Mohammad Hashim, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, announced the decision on Thursday, stating that it was made to allow residents to focus on preparations for the festive period.

“The government recognizes the significance of Sallah and has decided to suspend the exercise to enable residents to fully engage in their preparations,”; he said.

Dr. Hashim further explained that the move would also accommodate the influx of visitors from other states who are expected to visit Kano, a major commercial hub, during the celebrations.

However, he clarified that the sanitation exercise for government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), motor parks, and markets would still hold as scheduled on Friday, March 28.

“We remain committed to maintaining a clean and healthy environment while respecting the cultural and religious practices of our people,”; he added.

The commissioner urged residents to continue practicing good hygiene and proper waste disposal despite the suspension. He assured that the monthly sanitation exercise would resume in April 2025.
