Kebbi govt orders manhunt after abduction of FUBK student, mourns slain rescuer

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has condemned the abduction of Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday.
Tragically, a local resident, Malam Siddi Hussaini, lost his life after being shot by the assailants during a courageous attempt to rescue the student.

In a statement released by the Director of Security, Cabinet Office, Abdulrahman Zagga, the state government confirmed that swift and coordinated efforts have been launched to secure the release of the abducted student. Governor Idris has directed the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to work closely with university authorities to track down the perpetrators and ensure the student’s safe return.

The attack occurred at Istijaba Villa, an off-campus student hostel in Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area—not within the university premises, as clarified by the government.

The governor expressed deep condolences to the Unguwar Jeji community, particularly the family of the deceased, and to the FUBK community at large. He also assured parents and students that the state government remains fully committed to ensuring their safety and strengthening campus security measures moving forward.
