Kebbi govt orders security agencies to rescue abducted varsity student

The Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, has condemned the abduction of a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), Augustine Madubiya, by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday.

During the incident, which occurred at Istijaba Villa, an off-campus hostel in Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area, a local resident, Malam Siddi Hussaini, was fatally shot while reportedly attempting to rescue the victim.

In a statement signed by the Director of Security, Cabinet Office, Abdulrahman Zagga, the state government disclosed that it has taken immediate and proactive measures to secure the safe release of the abducted student.

Governor Idris has directed the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to intensify efforts and work in close coordination with the university’s management to ensure a swift and safe return of the student.

The governor also extended his condolences to the Unguwar Jeji community and the family of the deceased, as well as the FUBK community.

He further reassured students, parents, and academic institutions across the state of his administration’s firm commitment to strengthening campus and student safety.

The state government emphasized that the incident took place outside the university’s premises, at a privately-owned residence.
