Kebbi Govt vows to apprehend those responsible for abduction of university student

Published on April 09, 2025 at 07:22 PM

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has condemned the abduction of Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, FUBK, who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday.

DAILY Post reports that Malam Siddi Hussaini, a local resident, was killed after being shot by the assailants during an attempt to rescue the student.

The state government, in a statement issued by Abdulrahman Zagga, Director of Security at the Cabinet Office, confirmed that a swift, coordinated operation has been launched to secure the student’s release.

Governor Idris has instructed the Police and the Department of State Security, DSS, to work closely with the university authorities to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the student.

The government clarified that the abduction took place at Istijaba Villa, an off-campus student hostel located in Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area—not within the university campus, as initially suggested.

Governor Idris expressed his condolences to the family of the late Malam Hussaini, acknowledging his bravery in attempting to rescue the student.

He also reassured the public that efforts to bring the kidnappers to justice are ongoing.

“We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice,” Governor Idris vowed.
