Labour MP calls on PM to abolish Sentencing Council ‘to stop white men being discriminated against in court’

SIR Keir Starmer should abolish the Sentencing Council to stop white men being discriminated against in court, a Labour MP has said.

He said: “The British people elect governments to lead the country.

“They don’t elect quangos to do things the public don’t agree with.

“It is clear ministers do not agree with the sentencing council yet the sentencing council are not interested in that.

“We need to take the power back away to those who are democratically elected so we can serve the interests of the British people.”;

From Tuesday the council will bring in new guidance for judges to consider the racial, cultural and religious background of offenders before passing sentence.

Women and transgender offenders should also get one, the new guidelines say.

Critics say this creates a two-tier justice system.

The PM is considering bringing in emergency laws to face down the judges — but they will not come in before the new rules kick in.
