Earlier this week, a picture of Khloé Kardashian was posted to Instagram and it showed a new side of Khloé because it showed what she actually looks like without all kinds of CGI, Photoshop, and filtered wizardry. It’s rumored that her grandma, MJ Houghton, posted the pic, which might explain how such a photo was able to slip past the family’s in-house reality distortion experts. Naturally (no pun intended), Khloé wanted that picture gone immediately. She first sent the family’s lawyers to get rid of the picture. Now she’s talking about it, and explaining why she really didn’t want that picture to see the light of day.
Khloé decided to address this dramatic situation from the safety and comfort of an Instagram Live because I guess she couldn’t get Oprah Winfrey in her backyard on such short notice. She also posted a series of Instagram posts, including several allegedly unedited pictures and videos of her body. She also offered up a lengthy explanation for why that unedited picture of her wasn’t one she wanted people to see. Khloé acknowledges that she thinks that the unfiltered/unedited picture of herself is beautiful, but that it was taken in bad lighting and wasn’t flattering. She also believes that if there’s a picture of herself out there that she doesn’t like and that was posted without her permission, that she has every right to ask for it to be taken down. And the reason she’s so protective of what people see of her is due to the fact that Khloé has major body image issues, thanks to years of being Kim and Kourtney Kardashian’s sister. via People:
“In truth, the pressure, constant ridicule and judgment my entire life to be perfect and to meet other’s standards of how I should look has been too much to bear. ‘Khloé is the fat sister.’ ‘Khloé is the ugly sister.’ ‘Her dad must not be her real dad because she looks so different.’ ‘The only way she could have lost that weight must have been from surgery.’”
“You never quite get used to being judged and pulled apart and told how unattractive one is, but I will say if you hear anything enough then you will start to believe it. This is how I have been conditioned to feel, that I am not beautiful enough just being me.”
“Oh no, who put all that pressure on you to be perfect?” asked Khloé’s mother and manager Kris Jenner, as she nervously waves away the truck pulling into the driveway carrying weight loss tea, hair gummies, cellulite creams, and waist trainers.
Khloé also admits to throwing her social media pics through a ton of filters, if only because they make her feel better about herself, in the same way that getting her nails done or having her face caked in makeup can make her feel fresher and more put together. And, her body is no longer up for discussion, because it’s hers, and she gets to choose how she presents it to the world.
“I love a good filter, good lighting and an edit here and there. The same way I throw on some makeup, get my nails done, or wear a pair of heels to present myself to the world the way I want to be seen and it’s exactly what I will continue to do unapologetically. My body, my image and how I choose to look and what I want to share is my choice. It’s not for anyone to decide or judge what is acceptable anymore.”

Several of Khloé’s sisters congratulated Khloé on her post, like Kim who wrote, “I love you Khloé,” and Kendall Jenner who wrote, “Yes! You beautiful, strong, HEALTHY queen.” Which is nice, but…didn’t Khloé just admit that after decades of being told she’s not skinny enough and stunning enough, it’s fucked up her self-esteem so bad that she can’t post a single picture of herself without airbrushing it to perfection? I feel like at least one of them should have thrown out an apology. And not just to Khloé! These shallow-ass women are so obsessed with image, they’ve been known to drag each other’s looks during fights. But at the very least, Khloé has felt empowered enough to set a boundary for herself, by explaining that she doesn’t want to explain her body anymore. That will surely save her some time in the future. For instance, she should no longer feel required to explain why her body gives off uncanny valley vibes on social media. Because it probably isn’t a real picture! Just assume it’s the work of computers or technology, and move on.
