Kim Jong Un approves North Korea’s attack drones production

Published on March 27, 2025 at 09:46 AM

Kim Jong Un has approved the production of North Korea's attack drones after assessing the work of the Unmanned Aeronautical Technology Complex and the detective electronic warfare research group.

The supreme leader learned about various kinds of reconnaissance and suicide attack drones being produced by an institute under the complex and supervised their performance test.

The trial demonstrated the drone's intelligence gathering means, jamming system, and the striking capability when deployed for tactical missions, the Korean Central News Agency reported on Wednesday.

Also displayed was the performance of a reconnaissance drone capable of tracking and monitoring different targets and enemy troops' activities on the ground and the sea.

The state media said Kim Jong Un evaluated the effectiveness and strategic value of the drones powered by artificial intelligence and endorsed the military's proposal to expand the production capacity.

The leader stated that in keeping with the trend of modern warfare and as part of long-term plan, unmanned equipment and artificial intelligence should be top-prioritized in the armed forces.

The drones, according to Un, were developed with up-to-date technology and would be used for observing potential threats and collecting vital information to enhance the army's capability of conducting operations.

On Tuesday, United States Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard said Kim Jong Un “is pursuing stronger, strategic, and conventional capabilities that can target U.S. forces, allies, and the U.S. homeland.”

Gabbard told the Senate Intelligence Committee that the plan is to “bolster North Korea's leverage and stature, defend its regime, and achieve at least tacit recognition as a nuclear weapons power.”

The director added that North Korea might conduct another nuclear test soon as the nation continues to tryout its intercontinental ballistic missiles “to demonstrate their increasing capabilities.”
