Published on April 22, 2025 at 08:39 PM

Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday recovered the lifeless body of a yet-to-be-identified man from the Asa River in Ilorin, the state capital.

The incident was reported by officials from the Kwara State Ministry of Environment, who arrived at the fire service operational centre in a vehicle bearing registration number 17B-D4KW.

According to a statement issued in Ilorin by the spokesman of the fire service, Hassan Adekunle, the environmental officials discovered the body floating on the river and promptly alerted the fire service.

Upon receiving the report, a team of firefighters was swiftly dispatched to the scene to mitigate potential environmental hazards.

The statement confirmed that the crew successfully retrieved the body from the Asa River.

The recovered body was subsequently handed over to the Ministry of Environment, which is now awaiting formal identification and claims from the deceased’s family.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, advised citizens to prioritise safety, urging the general public to exercise greater caution in their daily activities and to refrain from sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells.
