KYLIE Minogue is undoubtedly one of Australia’s biggest exports – becoming a pop icon around the world with her catchy albums that transcend decades.
Since making waves on Neighbours in 1986 as girl-next-door Charlene Robinson, she has become a popstar phenomenon, and now she’s heading to the UK for her latest world tour, performing at the O2 Arena in late May.
But with her fame came a number of saucy moments that she has managed to keep hidden from the limelight.
However, over the years, Kylie’s former lovers have made a number of candid confessions about their romances after their split.
Here are just some of them.
Kylie and Jason’s Travelodge Rendez-Vous
Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan became a real-life couple and nation’s sweethearts when they first got together while filming Neighbours in the 80s
Their relationship lasted three years, during which time they topped the UK charts for three weeks with their love song, Especially For You.
During a chat on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories in 2012, Jason revealed more about their relationship – including when they first did the deed.
“She chased me initially, and then I guess I gradually gave in, and one thing led to another,”; he laughed with the host.
“The next thing you know we were working and having this relationship.”;
When asked about rumours that they “cemented things in a Sydney Travelodge”; he responded: “I think that is absolutely true. I think there were a number of promotional trips that the people from Neighbours would do each weekend around Australia, and I think the Travelodge was the place.”;
“The Travelodge in those days, was a really posh place then!”; he jokingly defended, however he stopped short of saying she took her virginity, saying that wasn’t true.
He also admits he felt jealous of Kylie, which caused trouble in their relationship – which ultimately ended with Kylie later leaving him for Michael Hutchence from rock band, INXS.
Caught Joining the Mile High Club
Kylie met Hutchence in 1989 when she went to an INXS show with then boyfriend, Jason Donovan.
In 1995, during an interview with EuroTrash on Channel 4, Kylie said Hutchence was good in bed, and then when pressed if she’d “learned something new”; from him, added:”;Some but not all, always something new, each man should teach you something new.”
Speaking to A Current Affair in 2014, Kylie said he was forward with her from the start, with their connection instant – though she turned down his proposals to kiss her multiple times before they finally got together.
Music video director Nick Egan later claimed that the pair had sex while in first class on an airplane – when Australian Prime Minister at the time, Bob Hawke, was nearby.
Egan said (via Scottish Daily Record): ”Hutchence was on a Qantas Jumbo Jet. Him and Kylie were having sex – but not in the toilet, they were actually doing it on the seat.
”She's so small that he put a blanket over her and they were having sex and two rows ahead was the Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke.
“He happened to look round and catch a look back and gave them a wink in the middle of the act.”;
Kylie has never personally confirmed the tryst, but in documentary Mystify: Michael Hutchence, reflecting on the late singer’s life, she said (via Yahoo): “Sex, love, food, drugs, music, travel, books, you name it, he wanted to experience it.
“As his partner I got to experience a lot of that as well. If you're a sensual being, all of your senses need stimulation. He definitely awakened my desire for things in my world.”
In 2020, Kylie was asked about the mile high moment by Australian radio presenters, Will and Woody,to which she laughed: “I can’t remember! I think I may have just been having a snuggle. Those blankets aren’t very big.”;
She then joked it was “on the nose”; and asked for the pair to move on.
A-List Tryst
In 2012, actor Jean Claude Van Damme was confronted about rumours that he had a fling with Kylie while filming Street Fighter together.
Speaking to The Guardian, he initially tried to shrug it off, joking: “I tell you what, you should ask her. She'll have a better memory.
“I'm 51 years old, do you know how much I was punched in the face on The Expendables?”;
However, he later relented and said: “OK. Yes, yes, yes. It happened. I was in Thailand, we had an affair. Sweet kiss, beautiful lovemaking.
“It would be abnormal not to have had an affair, she's so beautiful and she was there in front of me every day with a beautiful smile, simpatico, so charming, she wasn't acting like a big star. I knew Thailand very well, so I showed her my Thailand. She's a great lady.”
