Labour minister blasted for claiming expenses on £27.50 Remembrance Day wreath

A LABOUR minister has been blasted for claiming a Remembrance Day wreath on expenses.

Industry Minister Sarah Jones claimed back £27.50 from taxpayers for a poppy tribute to soldiers at a constituency event.

Such a claim is allowed but is hugely frowned on.

said the claim last October was made in error and has since been repaid in full.

But MP and veteran Ben Obese-Jecty said: “For a minister to claim the cost of paying tribute to our fallen illustrates once again how this Government know the cost of everything and value of nothing.”;

Elliot Keck, head of campaigns at the , said: “Sarah Jones should hang her head in shame for this, as should any other penny-pinching politician engaging in this undignified practice.

“The laying of a wreath is a deeply solemn, profound event to commemorate those who died fighting for King and country.”;

A Labour Party spokesperson said: “This claim was made in error and has been repaid.

“Sarah donates to the every year and is proud to do so.

“The Labour Party’s support for our armed forces is unwavering.”;
