Labour Party in UK suspends MP Dan Norris after rape arrest

Published on April 05, 2025 at 09:26 PM

The UK’s ruling Labour Party has suspended MP Dan Norris. This follows his arrest on suspicion of sexual offences against a girl and rape.

Police revealed on Friday that a man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of sexual offences against a girl, child abduction, and misconduct in a public office.

“Most of the offences are alleged to have occurred in the 2000s, but we’re also investigating an alleged offence of rape from the 2020s,”; the police said in a statement.

But on Saturday, Labour said they had suspended Norris, who is the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham.

“Dan Norris MP was immediately suspended by the Labour Party upon being informed of his arrest.

“We cannot comment further while the police investigation is ongoing,”; a party spokesperson said.

The 65-year-old was elected to parliament in 2024, defeating high-profile Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Norris had previously been in parliament, serving as a junior minister under former prime minister Gordon Brown.
