Land documents without recertification to be revoked in Abia, as enforcement begins

Published on March 27, 2025 at 07:50 PM

Documents of developed and undeveloped lands in Abia State whose owners did not submit to the state government for recertification, will be revoked or withdrawn.

Also, any title owner who fails to submit such documents for recertification within fourteen days of the announcement, would face legal action from the State government.

Abia State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Chaka Ikenna Chukwumerije who broke the news on Thursday in Umuahia while announcing the commencement of enforcement of title recertification/ rent demand notice, said that the state government had been extending the deadline since May,2024.

He recalled that the landed property owners were asked to produce evidence of submission of their title documents for recertification, evidence of up-to-date payment of ground rent and other statutory fees.

Chukwumerije also said the landed property owners were since May 2024, asked to produce fencing permit and approved building plans where applicable.

He declared that all housing estates in the State like IBB Phase 1, Agbama, Isieke, World Bank Umuahia and Aba and other areas are not excluded from the looming enforcement.

“please note that non-compliance to this notice will be deemed as evidence of non-payment of your ground rent or non-fulfilment of terms of your land allocation which is a basis for the revocation of your Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) or withdrawal of your land allocation, in line with the extant laws”, Chukwumerije warned.

He directed the land owners to submit the requested documents to his Ministry Abia State Secretariat Umuahia or the Aba zonal office.
