Latvia sends combat drones to Ukraine

Published on April 01, 2025 at 07:48 PM

Latvia is sending an additional 1,500 combat drones to Ukraine as part of assistance for the country's armed forces.

Latvia's Defence Minister Andris Sprūds made the announcement on Tuesday and shared photos of the cache in a post on X.

“Two Latvian companies will deliver a total of 12,000 drones, worth 17 million euros, to Ukraine in the first half of this year,” he wrote.

The drones are among the supplies that were approved by an international coalition led by the United Kingdom and Latvia.

The drone coalition was established in January 2024 to enhance Ukraine's unmanned aerial vehicle, UAV, capabilities.

The alliance has reportedly allocated €20 million from a joint fund to procure tactical-level reconnaissance drones for the Ukrainian defence forces.

In March, Sweden directed its Armed Forces to contribute funds to coalitions focused on mine clearance and UAVs under the Ramstein support framework for Kyiv.
