Leeds, Burnley edge closer to EPL return

Published on April 19, 2025 at 05:26 AM

Leeds and Burnley are now on the verge of promotion to the Premier League.

Both teams recorded wins on Friday, to maintain a five-point lead over Sheffield United in third place.

Burnley came from behind to beat Watford 2-1, thanks to goals from Zian Flemming and Josh Brownhill.

The result sees the Clarets equal a club record of 30 league fixtures without defeat.

A win for Scott Parker’s men against Sheffield United on Monday will guarantee promotion.

Leeds moved back to the top of the Championship on goal difference with a narrow 1-0 victory at Oxford.

Manor Solomon grabbed the winning goal of the contest in the 33rd minute.

Leeds will also be promoted with a win over Stoke City on Monday, should Burnley avoid defeat against the Blades.

Sheffield United kept their promotion hopes alive by beating Cardiff 2-0, with goals from Gustavo Hamer and Ben Brereton Diaz.
