LG chairman condemns killing of 3 Benue fish traders in Taraba

The Chairman of Logo LGA in Benue State, Clement Ungwacii Kav, has condemned the killing of three fish traders from his council by suspected militias in Wukari, Taraba State.

Logo and Wukari, which share a common boundary, have recorded sporadic tensions in recent times.

The latest incident, according to reports, occurred when the victims – two men and a woman – were lured to Shaor settlement in Wukari under the pretense of purchasing fish at a discounted price.

The invitation, according to our source, turned out to be a deadly trap, resulting in the killing of the traders.

A lone survivor, who narrowly escaped, detailed the tragic encounter to the district head of Ukemberagya/Tswarev, explaining that the victims were ambushed and murdered on their way to Zebo, another community in Wukari council.

In a statement issued on Monday, Kav described the attack as senseless and unacceptable, expressing deep concern over the recurring violence targeting his constituents.

He called on both the Taraba State government and the Federal Government to intervene and prevent further escalation.

“As the executive chairman, my foremost responsibility is to protect lives and property. I cannot sit idly while my people are being killed by militias from neighboring states,” Kav stated.

He also urged his counterpart in Wukari to act swiftly by deploying security measures to curb such attacks and promote peaceful coexistence across border communities.

Despite the gravity of the incident, Kav appealed for calm and unity among the affected communities.

“We are one Nigeria. We must strive to live in peace and resolve our differences through dialogue, not violence,” he said.

The chairman further called on residents of Ukemberagya/Tswarev and the entire Logo council to remain law-abiding, assuring them that the perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice.
