LIDL'S Dubai-style chocolate bars sold out in 84 minutes after it became the first UK supermarket to jump on the trend.

The budget retailer sparked a frenzy amongst customers after claiming their own-brand pistachio-filled snack was the cheapest.

The sweet treat, which contains a green filling made from pistachio and a traditional Arab dessert called Knafeh, has taken TikTok by storm and is the subject of over 300,000 posts on the app.

Following this trend, Lidl's TikTok Shop flogged a limited 6,000 run of the pasty-inspired snack.

The 122g J.D Gross chocolate bars went on sale at 9am on March 22 with a £3.99 price tag plus £1 postage.

By 10.24am they were completely sold out.

A Lidl spokesperson spoke of the company's impressive venture: “This momentous occasion marks Lidl’s second foray into TikTok Shop, as the announcement comes hot on the heels of the recent launch of its Protein Bundles, which sold out just 18 minutes after dropping on the platform.

“Now, as love for the coveted chocolate sensation only continues to grow, this latest drop is set to be even bigger.”;

The indulgent chocolate bar often comes with a hefty price tag, with single bars retailing online for more than £15.

In December last year, Luxury chocolate brand Lindt sold their limited run of the chocolate bars for an eye-watering £10 per bar.

Eagle-eyed shoppers have also spotted dupes of the viral chocolate bar in Home Bargains recently.

Posting on theFood Finds UK Facebookpage, one shopper said she found the “DuBites” in her localHome Bargainsstore for £4.

Fellow shoppers have been quick to comment jealous at the find, which is £16 cheaper than the real bar version.

One said: “Uhhhh really need to try these.”

Another commented: “Get in the basket hun.”

Meanwhile, a third and fourth simply said: “OH MY CHRIST” and “OMG NEED.”

Although not everyone is sold on the flavorsome fad, with critics comparing it to the “hysteria” around Prime drinks.

Posting onExtreme Couponing and Bargains UK, a privateFacebookgroup with 2.6 million members, Dawn Louise Anderson uploaded asnapof Lindt's Dubai Chocolate.

Dawn penned: “Looks amazing, but £10 seems a bit excessive.”;

But people were left totally divided by Dawn’s post, which racked up 611 likes and 1,100 comments in just 14 hours.

Whilst many claimed they ‘need’ to try it, others weren’t impressed with the price tag and thought it was yet another ‘crazy craze’ – just like the Prime drinks, founded by YouTubersLogan PaulandKSI, thatsent shoppers wild back in January 2022.

“Crazy craze again. Just like Prime they will be five for a £1 when it's worn off, but we all know a fool and hismoneyare soon parted,”; one wrote.

Another added: “It will be 59p inHeronsin a few years time. The same happened with Prime.”;
