A MAYOR has been convicted of stalking after sending a string of unwanted love letters â to the wrong woman.
Graham Roberts, 72, was infatuated with a barmaid at his local and looked up her address on the electoral roll.

But he got the wrong person and another woman was baffled when she began receiving gushing love notes.
In one, he described her as his soulmate and said he wanted to protect her.
He included £40 cash in another before the woman took the letters to the police.
Some were unopened and finally identified him when they found his business card attached to one.
It revealed the sender was the mayor of Whitehaven Town Council in .
Roberts was arrested at his home in the town last September â and later said he would be stepping back as mayor due to ill health.
His intended target, the barmaid, told cops that Roberts was a pub regularand described him as “part of the furniture”;.
She said he chatted to her in a friendly manner when her boyfriend and customers were around, but was strange when they were alone.
The woman who received the letters said she had stopped running at night because she was scared someone was watching her, Workington heard.
Retired printing boss Roberts, who appeared in court wearing a black pin-stripe suit and white fedora, admitted stalking without causing fear and will be sentenced next month.
His lawyer said mitigation would be given at sentencing which is expected to take place on May 6.
Mike Woolagahan, defending, said while there had been some planning, it was ‘not especially sophisticated' but there had been some distress caused to a couple of people.
Mr Woolaghan added that there were some concerns about the defendant's presentation and whether this was a factor behind the behaviour.
Robertswas granted bail but cannot return to the pub nor contact either woman.
