BEING a busy mum with a full-time job can leave little time for a intricate skincare regime.

Some evenings I pat myself on the back if I remember to take my make-up off, never mind anything else.

So going for the occasional facial feel like a total treat – and also helps me to repair some of the damage I've done by neglecting my skin.

And I was delighted to be invited along to try out Lush's new Rewilding Facial at Glasgow's flagship store and spa.

The handmade cosmetics company created the lifting facial with ingredients that help rewild habitats across the globe and fresh formulas that provide nourishment to the skin.

First I was talked through the treatment by my expert therapist Cat who explained the story behind the 50-minute Rewilding experience as well as all the products that would be used, including a double cleanse with Lush’s gentle signaturecleanserUltrabland and a Drop of Hope soap, which contains moisturising rapeseed oil from Fukushima.

I was then shown to the low-lit treatment room – mine was called Nuthatch, with all the spa areas named after birds.

All Lush's spa experiences have their own soundtracks, recorded by the house band – Fresh Handmade Sound – and this particular tune covers the changing of the seasons using renditions of folk songs that are centuries-old odes to nature along with birdsong.

This sets the scene and every step of the facial, every movement the theraoist made was in time to the music. And this makes it feel like a real experience.

It starts like a normal facial with the skin cleansed and a moisturising balm added.

But the rest of the treatment is, as the name suggests, pretty wild.

There's some pretty intense facial and neck massaging involved, which helps with lymphatic drainage and promotes elasticity in the skin.

At times this felt a bit on the brutal side but the results were amazing.

More on that later. First I have to talk about the hot and cold therapies.

My skin felt buzzy and toasty warm after my massage and mask – during which I had a glorious scalp and neck rub.

But then I got the shock of my life when a freeing cold jelly face mask – which is kept on ice – was applied. This witchhazel and peppermint mask immediately soothed my skin and also brought me back from my total state of relaxation.

The Lush's Gorgeousmoisturiser was applied for the final touch.

I honestly felt like a new woman when I came out. My skin was refreshed and toned, and the firm pressure had clearly done its job.

I can't recommend it highly enough, especially for tired parents who need an extra boost.

It's not just for mums – the new treatment is fully adaptable for clients with facial hair, featuring a different range of products and techniques that get to the skin below the beard, finishing off with beard brushing to leave it looking its best, so it's good for dads too.
