Hit soap gets major shakeup after 17 years - but fans fear it's a sign of cast exodus

A SOAP legend has filmed their final ever scenes today after 33 years in the role.

Home and Away fans have been left devastated as the iconic wrapped filming on her final ever lines.

Lynne McGranger has officially bowed out of her role as Summer Bay resident Irene Roberts.

Actress Lynne, 72, joined Home and Away in 1993 in a guest role before she became a fan-favourite and permanent member of the cast.

While Lynne has filmed her final scenes, fans will still get to enjoy Irene on screen for another couple of months.

Reflecting on her time on Home and Away, she said: “I’ve had the ride of my life.

“AndI love eachandevery one of you so much: The cast – Ray, Georgie, Emily, Shane, Ada, James, all the youngins.

“The art department, the writers, everybody – there’s so many unsung heroes. This show is made up of so many parts.

“You’re all amazing,andit’s been my great privilege to work with eachandevery one of you.

“I’m touched, I’m humbledandI’m so honored. Thank you so much.”;

Home and Away have yet to reveal Irene's exit storyline – but have teased it's going to be “emotional”.

Reacting on social media to Lynne's final day on set, one fan said: “So sad to see her go but wishing her all the best.”

A second wrote: “Home and Away without Irene(Lynne) will be a huge loss, you have been a delight to watch over the years. Good luck Lynne in your next adventure, but fans of the soap will miss seeing you.”

A third fan paid tribute: “I've been a fan of the show from a kid. kind of just about remembering all the early episodes & memories of Irene coming into the show. She's fostered so many kids over the last 30 + years watched all wow I'll miss her, end of an era.”

But as the series progresses it becomes less clear who the bad guy really is and how far everyone will go to get the life they think they deserve.
  • Heat – EastEnders alum Danny Dyer leads this four-part action thriller, set in Australia, which sees two families holidaying together during bushfire season. But instead of rest and relaxation, secrets and lies start to unravel — and not everyone will make it out alive...
  • Lie With Me – Another soap legend jets off to Australia, this time its EastEnders alum Charlie Brooks who takes as a married woman trying to saving her marriage by moving halfway around the world after her husband had an affair. However it's far from plain sailing, as a young and attractive live-in nanny comes to work with the Fallmont family, and tensions soon build and eventually, someone ends up dead.
  • The DrowningJill Halfpenny plays Jodie, a woman whose life is shattered following the disappearance of her beloved four-year-old son, Daniel. However, ten years later, the grieving mother thinks she's finally found her missing child, and embarks on a journey to discover the truth about him. But has she really just found the son she has been missing for so long?
