THE M6 is completely blocked after a crash brought traffic to a standstill with drivers facing huge queues.

Motorists on their Easter holidays are stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the northbound carriageway between Junction 16 and 17.

There is also gridlock on the A500 through Audley with cars piling up all the way to Junction 15.

Emergency services arrived at the site of the crash in South Cheshire and one lane remains shut.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Traffic is stopped on the M6 in Cheshire northbound between Junction and Junction 17 due to a collision.

“Emergency services are in attendance.

“Long delays building, please allow extra time for your journey.”

Traffic observation software Inrix reports that the northbound stretch remains “blocked.”
