Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has visited Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, the state capital, which was recently engulfed by fire.

DAILY POST reports that the governor's visit comes 20 days after properties worth millions of naira were completely destroyed by fire in the market.

Makinde, who visited the market on Tuesday, declared that his administration will restructure the market to prevent a recurrence of the fire incident that destroyed goods worth millions of naira.

The governor further stated that the state government has provided some form of palliative to serve as immediate relief for the victims of the fire.

Addressing the traders whose shops were affected by the blaze, Makinde maintained that the government would work on the market to implement a proper architectural design that could prevent future fire
incidents.

He added that the state government, the Ibadan South-West Local Government, and the Ibadan South LCDA would collaborate to mitigate the impact of the fire incidents on traders in the coming days.

Makinde said, “There are two priorities. Firstly, to organise the market itself, because even though there is a fire station located where the fire broke out, they could not stop the fire.

“So, we have to ensure that we do whatever is necessary to make the fire station functional.

“Secondly, there is a section that the local government intends to demolish, and I have instructed the chairman that the demolition should not proceed until an alternative is provided for the people. We will work on that together within the next few days to cushion the impact of the fire incident on the people.”
