Man detained for allegedly killing brother’s wife, injuring child in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly killing his younger brother’s wife and injuring a neighbour’s daughter in Gunka Village, Jahun Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson SP Lawan Shiisu confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday in Dutse.

He revealed that the suspect, whose name has been withheld, is believed to be mentally unstable.

According to the statement, the suspect attacked the victims with a pestle around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Jahun, where the 20-year-old woman, identified as Ummi Sale, died while receiving treatment.

The second victim, six-year-old Hauwa Alkasim, remains hospitalized and is responding to treatment.

The police have released the deceased’s remains to her family for burial.

SP Shiisu stated that the suspect is in custody and will undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation to assess his mental condition.

He emphasized the command's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in the state.
