Earlier this month, the Red Devils sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old Portuguese centre-back.

Silva has been linked with a move to a number of Europe’s biggest clubs

He has broken through into the team this season following injuries to first-choice pairing Lucas Verissimo and Joao Victor.

And he has impressed at the very top level, including in a pair of 1-1 draws with PSG in the Champions League.

According to Le10Sport, those displays have caught the attention of those in charge of the Ligue 1 giants.

They were originally interested in him during the summer, but are now preparing to return for the teenager once more.

He has a 100 million euro >Benfica.

And there is no option of waiting for his contract to run down as his existing deal is not up until 2027.

Real Madrid, Manchester City, Napoli and Valencia are also reportedly interested in the defender – along with Man Utd.

But they are all thought to be put off by the huge release clause.

Silva, who has started 11 of Benfica’s 13 games so far this season, is yet to be capped by the Portugal national team.

However, he is making a late run to be included in Fernando Santos’ final squad for the World Cup next month.

Meanwhile, Man Utd are keen to bolster their options in central defence.

Raphael Varane was forced off in tears during Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea as he faces time on the sidelines.

Lisandro Martinez is set to continue in the starting line-up, but Harry Maguire‘s form remains very poor and he is also recovering from an injury.

The other senior centre-half is Victor Lindelof, but he is not considered to be a long-term solution.

United currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, one point behind Chelsea in fourth.
