MANCHESTER UNITED could be poised to hand Di’Shon Bernard the rarest of starts in their Carabao Cup clash against Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old has taken part in first-team training as boss Erik ten Hag casts his eye over some of the fringe players.

Di’Shon Bernard could be set for a rare start for Man Utd in the Carabao Cup

Bernard has not featured for United since November 2019.

The centre-half started the Europa League group game against Astana, with United then managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But it was an unhappy start to his Old Trafford career – Bernard scored an own-goal and United lost 2-1.

But now he could be given a chance to impress Ten Hag in the domestic cup competition.

Bernard has had spells out on loan at Hull and Salford.

The former Chelsea starlet was considered a big talent at Carrington and in 2019 United tied him down to a three-year pro deal until 2022.

United will be out for revenge as they host Aston Villa in Carabao Cup action.

The Red Devils were beaten by Unai Emery‘s side on his first match in charge on Sunday.

Goals from Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne and Jacob Ramsey were enough to see the Villains come out 3-1 victors.

Now is time for Erik ten Hag’s side to get immediate revenge as they welcome Sunday’s opponents to Old Trafford with the loss fresh in their memory.
