Martin Clunes reveals ‘abysmal’ Men Behaving Badly episode never aired – as he reunites with co-star Neil Morrissey

MARTIN Clunes has opened up on an “abysmal” episode of Men Behaving Badly which never made it to air.

Before the series made the big time, a pilot episode with Harry Enfield was produced but Martin had since admitted that it probably shouldn't have.

Discussing the history of the iconic show, he spoke exclusively to Flying Eze's TV Mag where he opened up on the ‘abandoned' first episode.

Referring to the director, John Howard Davis, Martin told Flying Eze: “John also directed the abysmal pilot of Men Behaving Badly with Harry Enfield that no one has ever seen. We remade it.”

Martin then added: “Dare I say it was badly directed.

“He went on to direct Fawlty Towers the most other thing and at one point, he actually said to me be more like John Cleese because their idea that it wouldn't be funny unless there was a clash that we had to, as characters flatmates, it had to be.”

Opening up on its success, the pair revealed how appearing on the show had opened them up to a new celeb world with countless opportunities.

Speaking about that time, Neil Morrissey said: “It was hectic. It was like being shot out of a crossbow. I mean, you know, we did meet the boys, didn't we?

“We met the Oasis chaps, you know had a few do's, because of course you get all invited to premieres, don't you?

“We all got invited to movie premieres and things like that.”

“We presented an award at the Brits. We attended a few. We were at the one when Jarvis Cocker mooned at Michael Jackson.”

Martin then added: “It was great fun. You get asked to places and given stuff and meet wacky people. It was a laugh. It was a real laugh.”

27 years on from the show, Neil and Martin have teamed back up for their new Gold travel show, Neil & Martin's Bon Voyage.

The show, which begins this Tuesday, sees the pair enjoy a road trip around Southern France.

Martin told TV Mag of the show: “We've had some really crap ideas thrown at us in the last 20 odd years since we finished doing Men Behaving Badly, haven't we? Really crap ones.

“Then they came up with this idea, which felt great because it's got that purpose to it, of Neil showing me around.

“You discover things that you wouldn't see in your own neighbourhood unless you were showing them to somebody else or things like that.
