Mass defection rocks Gombe as over 500 switch allegiance to SDP

Published on April 28, 2025 at 06:43 PM

In a political shake-up that has reverberated throughout Gombe State, over 500 individuals from Kalshingi Ward, Akko Local Government Area, have officially joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), leaving behind the APC, PDP, and NNPP.

The mass defection was formally announced during a vibrant reception ceremony held by the SDP in Gombe.

The statement confirming the defection was issued by Engr. Muhammad Abdulkadir Kumo, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Acting Chairman of the SDP, Gombe State.

The defectors, including youths, women, and community leaders, expressed their disillusionment with their former parties, describing them as “failed entities built on empty promises.”

They emphasized that the SDP offers the only credible alternative, with a vision focused on genuine change and progress for both Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole.

During the ceremony, the Akko Local Government SDP Chairman, Usman Muhammad, introduced the new members to the Acting State Chairman of the SDP, Comrade Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, in the presence of Dr. Bashir Abdullahi Gaddafi, the State Publicity Secretary, and other influential party members.

Comrade Modibbo, in his speech, welcomed the new members and pledged a leadership focused on inclusivity and active participation.

He also called on all SDP members to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts, ensuring the party’s message reaches every household across Gombe’s 11 local government areas.

“This is not just a defection; it is a clear sign that the people of Gombe are tired of failed promises, economic hardship, and leadership without direction,” Comrade Modibbo said.

“SDP remains the beacon of hope, unity, and the true progress that the good people of Gombe deserve.”
