Military, police stop bandits in Sokoto, stray bullet kills resident

Published on April 01, 2025 at 02:59 PM

A coordinated response by military and police forces thwarted an attempted attack by armed bandits on Tozai village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Monday.

According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, about 90 armed bandits on motorcycles stormed the village in a bid to launch an attack but were met with resistance from security forces. A fierce gun battle ensued, forcing the assailants to retreat.

However, during the exchange of fire, a stray bullet fired by the bandits struck a resident, 35-year-old Sule Ummaru, as he tried to flee the scene.

“Unfortunately, in the course of repelling the attack, a resident, Sule Ummaru, was hit by a stray bullet from the bandits. He was rushed to General Hospital Isa but later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment,”; makama confirmed.

Security forces have since intensified patrols in the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents.
