A TIME WARP Volkswagen Passat in showroom condition with exceptionally low mileage has fetched a surprisingly high price at auction.

The modern classic saloon, which rolled off the production line back in 1991 – some 34 years ago – was recently flogged by classic car auction house Collecting Cars.

The car, which was built to an unusually high specification, was recently sold for a cool £11,250

This 2.0-litre GL iteration Passat has been described by the listing as a “dependable and practical modern classic saloon”; that was offered for sale by its second owner “with exceptionally low mileage from new.”;

First registered in August 1991, it had been with the seller and second owner for over 13 years and shows a paltry 791 miles on the clock.

Speaking to Sun Motors, a spokesperson for Collecting Cars gave some finer details on the extraordinary set of wheels.

They said: “It was ordered new via a main dealer franchise in Glasgow.

“It was built to an unusually high specification, which included rare options like full ruffled soft leather, leather-trimmed steering wheel, polished ‘Le Castellet' alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and upgraded Blaupunkt Heidelberg cassette player with tape storage unit.

“It is thought that the car may originally have been a gift for the father of the person who ordered it, but it was only sparingly used for over 20 years before changing hands, with records on file proving its incredibly low mileage.”;

Records reveal that the VW had only 120 miles on the clock by August 2002, and 17 years later, in October 2019, the mileage had increased only slightly to 561 miles.

It eventually sold earlier this month in Brampton, Cumbria, for £11,250.

This comes as an urban explorer has uncovered two other highly iconic cars from the 1990s – although these have been left unused and neglected in an old garage.

YouTubestar Colin Smith, known for his channelThe Bearded Explorer, is well-renowned for his exploration videos, in which he often discovers abandoned classiccars.

In a recent video, he was lucky enough to unearth two worn Ford Escort RS Cosworths – loved by petrolheads for their high performance and distinctive styling.

At the unknown location, Colin is forced to trudge through a heavily wooded area before coming across the cars – which appear to be stored in an abandoned garage filled with discarded junk.

Inside, the two Escorts – one blue and the other white – are parked roughly facing one another, with an old Mini kept in the garage as well.

The Escort RS Cosworth is a truly sought-after modern classic, and is considered a symbol of the golden age of rallying.

And elsewhere, Peugeothave confirmed they're looking to put the fun back into its line of motors with a hot hatchback variant revealed to be in the works.

A sporty, GTi version of the e-208 is in the works, according to their new boss Alain Favey.

The French manufacturer, which is part of Stellantis, hasn’t had a GTi model in its ranks since the previous generation Peugeot 308 was pulled in 2021.
