Contaminated hand soap is urgently recalled in UK over infection risk – as shoppers warned ‘return it immediately’

A CONTAMINATED hand soap has been urgently recalled in the UK over a risk of infection – as shoppers are warned to “return it immediately”.

The Government's Office for Product Safety and Standards warned shoppers about the potential health hazard on March 21, 2025.

The affected soap, from Turkey, is the ‘Elbow Grease Heavy Duty Hand Cleaner', which comes in a 500ml bottle and contains a bright yellow hand cleansing gel.

Customers who have bought this product have been advised to check if they have the affected batch number 00645.

The announcement on the government website says: “Product Recall for Elbow Grease Heavy Duty Hand Cleaner presenting a microbiological risk.

“Hazard: The affected batch presents a microbiological risk as it is contaminated with aerobic mesophilic bacteria.

“The affected batch presents a microbiological risk as it is contaminated with aerobic mesophilic bacteria (measured value up to 9200 cfu/g).

“If used on damaged skin, or if it comes into contact with the eyes, the product could cause infection or irritation. The affected batch does not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC).”;
