A MAJOR supermarket is giving away free hot cross buns to shoppers this Easter.

has announced that you can pick up the seasonal treat in their cafes this week – but you need to show your to qualify.

Morrisons announced: “Shhh... this week in our Cafes we’re giving away free when you show your Asda Rewards app at the checkout.

“Call it an Easter treat from us.”;

This follows offering a at the counter in any of its 205 cafés for Mother’s Day.

Shoppers who spotted the deal claimed that Morrisons had done it in “retaliation” to the cheeky Asda deal.

A customer wrote on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK: “Here comes the retaliation! (Freebie)

“In response to Asda offering free tea for Mother’s Day when showing the Morrison More card, Morrison are now giving away free hot cross buns when you show your Asda Rewards in their cafe.”;

Some people labelled the promotion as “bizarre”; and Asda even commented on the deal on Facebook saying to Morrisons: “This didn’t go the way you were hoping, did it...”;

However, many shoppers seemed keen to take advantage of the free hot cross bun deal.

One said: “Yummy”;, while another added: “they are FREE!!”;

It comes after Morrisons announced last month, leaving some customers without a regular spot for a hot drink and a bite to eat.

A total of 18 Market Kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies will also close their doors over the next few months.

The also means that 365 workers are at risk of redundancy.

The latest bun to the market is awhich the supermarket says has an extremely “oozy gooey” centre.

Drawing inspiration from a dippy egg, the chocolatey bun is filled with a smooth yellow and white centre.

The chocolate whopper comes in a pack of six and costs £3.50.

Shoppers have gone wild for the latest buns, with one saying they've already flown off the shelves in their local .

One customer said: “These look yummy!”

Whilst another commented: “They are fabulous.”
