Morrisons to start shutting 17 stores in DAYS as part of major shake-up – exact closure dates confirmed

THE exact dates a number of Morrisons stores across the country will close have been revealed.

It also said it would be closing a number of its cafes, Market Kitchens, florists, meat counters, fish counters and pharmacies.

can now reveal when the stores will be closing – and they will be shutting up for good in a matter of days.

All of the stores will close on Wednesday, April 16, apart from Haxby which will close on Wednesday, May 14.

Eleven locations also had inside which are likely to be lost as a result – although these will shut on different dates.

This is the full list of Morrisons Daily stores closing:

  • Lowestoft Road, Gorleston – April 16
  • 3-5 Old Town, Peebles – April 16
  • 214 Hutton Road, Shenfield – April 16
  • Waterloo Estate, Poole – April 16
  • Higham Lane Estate, Tonbridge – April 16
  • The Cornmarket, Romsey – April 16
  • Lainshaw Street, Stewarton – April 16
  • Featherbed Lane, Selsdon – April 16
  • 19 The Village, Haxby – May 14
  • Queslett Road, Great Barr – April 16
  • Oakfield Road, Whickham – April 16
  • Queensway, Worle – April 16
  • Strand Parade, Goring-By-Sea – April 16
  • Westfield Road, Woking – April 16
  • 40 Peach Street, Wokingham – April 16
  • 51 Sidwell Street, Exeter – April 16
  • Moorland Road, Bath – April 16

users said the Worle store's closure was “such a shame”, while one local said her boyfriend works at the shop and “doesn't know what he's going to do”.

A local MP also made his feelings known about the Haxby store's closure.

Luke Charters, Labour MP for York Outer, said the closure would be “sad news for those who rely on these services for their jobs and daily needs”.

Meanwhile the Post Office also confirmed to Flying Eze the dates its stores will shut.

It said in a statement: “ has made the difficult decision to close some Morrisons Daily stores, some of which contain Post Offices.

“We fully recognise the inconvenience this will cause for our customers and apologise for the short notification as these branches close between 9 April and 14 May.

“We have reviewed Post Office provision in these areas and for most of these affected branches we are advertising the vacancies.”

  • Pheasey Post Office, Birmingham – April 9
  • Fellside Post Office, Whickham – April 9
  • Waterloo Estate Post Office, Poole – April 10
  • Shenfield Broadway Post Office, Brentwood – April 13
  • Moorfields Post Office, Bath – April 13
  • Stewarton Post Office, Kilmarnock – April 13
  • Queensway Post Office, Weston-Super-Mare – April 13
  • Sidwell Street Post Office, Exeter – April 14
  • Higham Wood Post Office, Tonbridge – April 14
  • Haxby Post Office, York – April 14
  • Crossways Post Office, Croydon – April 15

Local news reports have suggested the Post Office inside the Shenfield store could be saved.

The Post Office branch is set to shut on April 13, but Live says there's a possibility it could be moved further down the road.

Morrisons making major changes across stores

The cafe closures are also expected to be a blow to squeezed families as they run £5 pensioner meal deals and free fruit and breakfast cereals for kids during the holidays.

Chief executive Rami Baitiéh said the closures would “reinvigorate” the company and allow to be invested in other areas.

He added: “In most locations the Morrisons Café has a bright future, but a minority have specific local challenges and in those locations, regrettably, closure and re-allocation of the space is the only sensible option.”

Morrisons had quietly hiked menu prices in its cafes recently, with increases of up to 6.25%.

The most up to date menu, published in October 2024, shows the price of its Ultimate Breakfast fry-up has increased from £8 to £8.50.
