But whilst the excited grandma has left many stunned, people are all saying the same thing

For the Western-themed event, the happy couple stood in front of a ‘Boots or Bows’ sign.

And now, the mum-to-be has shared a clip from the intimate event on social media, leaving many open-mouthed.

But whilst the brunette beauty accused her mother-in-law of trying to mess up the event, it seems that people are now saying she is the problem.

Alongside the short clip, Laylannie wrote: “POV: When MIL tried to ruin gender reveal but caught herself and realised she messed up.”;

During the video, Laylannie and her partner stood in front of the posh gender reveal sign, which was decorated with pink and blue balloons.

Seconds later, after a countdown from their guests, confetti cannons exploded above them, sending blue confetti into the air.

The couple were overjoyed at the happy news that they were expecting a baby boy and as they smiled and reached toward each other for a hug, Laylannie’s blonde mother-in-law ran towards them.

As the couple hugged, the mother-in-law cheered whilst jumping and clapping her hands.

She attempted to get involved with her son and daughter-in-law’s embrace, but after realising her blunder, soon stepped back to let them share their special moment.

Seconds later, the excited grandmother was seen giving Laylannie a hug, to which Laylannie wrote: “We thought it was funny so we posted this because we had talked about this already.

“My family just has a sense of humour, don't take offence to it.”;

Trying to justify her mother-in-law’s awkward blunder, Laylannie later added: “This was our very first gender reveal, we were all super excited.”;

Social media users react

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @laylannietavera, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly gone viral and racked up 10.1 million views.

But social media users weren’t quite on board with Laylannie’s claim that her mother-in-law ‘tried to ruin’ the event.

What Is A Gender Reveal?

Gender reveal parties are celebrations where expectant parents announce the sex of their baby in a creative and often dramatic way.

These events have gained significant popularity, especially through social media.

The trend began in the late 2000s and has since exploded in popularity.

The concept was popularised by parents who wanted to share their excitement with family and friends in a memorable and engaging way.

Common Methods:

  • Cakes:Cutting a cake filled with either blue or pink filling.
  • Balloons:Popping a balloon to release colored confetti.
  • Smoke Bombs:Releasing colored smoke.
  • Piñatas:Breaking a piñata to reveal colored candies or confetti.
  • Fireworks:Using fireworks to display blue or pink colors.

Why Are They So Popular?

  1. Social Media Influence:Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube have amplified the trend, with many parents posting videos and photos that go viral.
  2. Milestone Celebration:It’s an additional way for parents to celebrate a significant milestone during pregnancy.
  3. Creativity:These events offer an outlet for parents to be creative and personalize their announcement.
  4. Community Sharing:They provide an opportunity to include extended family and friends in the pregnancy journey.

Controversies:

  • Safety Concerns:Some gender reveal methods have led to accidents and even wildfires.
  • Environmental Impact:The use of non-biodegradable materials and fireworks can have environmental consequences.
  • Inclusivity:There's growing awareness and sensitivity towards non-binary and transgender identities, leading to criticism that these events can be exclusionary.

Despite the controversies, gender reveal parties continue to evolve.

Some parents are opting for more eco-friendly and inclusive ways to celebrate, while others are choosing to forgo the tradition altogether.

In summary, gender reveals are a modern trend driven by social media, creativity, and the desire to celebrate milestones.

However, they also come with their share of controversies, prompting some to reconsider how they choose to share their baby news.

In fact, viewers warned Laylannie to ‘stop normalising unnecessary mother-in-law hate’.

One person said: “She's excited. Live a little. No one is trying to ruin your “moment”.”;

Another added: “No one can ever win. It’s either too excited and ruining it, stealing their spotlight or they don’t care at all or enough. I see an excited happy grandma that did step back and give you your moment.”;

God forbid your mother in law is happy for you

A third commented: “Can we stop normalising unnecessary MIL hate? She was genuinely so happy for you both – not trying to “steal your moment”;.”;

Meanwhile, someone else wrote: “She didn't grow up in a time where you had to get the “perfect video” for social media first. She grew up in a time where you hugged people and lived in the moment. Let that marinate in your head.”;

At the same time, another user chimed in: “God forbid your mother in law is happy for you.”;

Not only this, but someone else recognised: “Nah cause she seems genuinely excited and she realised she messed up can we not put her on blast.”;

To this, Laylannie replied: “Yes she instantly felt bad.”;
