I bought a 24-year-old caravan off a traveller to stay in with my kids - everyone warned me not to, but it's immaculate

A WOMAN who was warned she'd regret her decision to buy a 24-year-old caravan from a traveller has insisted it's the best thing she's ever done.

Jess wanted a home from home to stay in for holidays with her kids, and decided to go ahead with her purchase despite what other people may think about the traveller community.

She shared a video tour of the Sterling Wayfarer on her TikTok page, as she wrote over the top: “Getting a caravan from a traveller – the best thing I ever did!”

Kicking off the clip, Jess asked “why the f**k wouldn't” she, as she insisted: “We need to stop all this discrimination and prejudice towards these kinds of things because the amount of people that I had telling me not to do it, it might be this, it might be that.

“But what if it's not? Why are we judging people just for what we hear from other stories?”

She turned the camera to show the interior of the caravan, as she said: “This is the best looked after caravan I've seen while searching for a caravan.

“It's 24 years old and it looks like it has never been used.

“This is incredible. It looks like it's never been lived in.

“There's no damp, there's no holes.”

Jess added that she's “done background checks” on the caravan too, and sighed: “And yes, it's fine”.

“It's fantastic and I honestly sing the praise for whoever lived in this because my God had they looked after this!” she gushed.

Jess added that while the “pristine” caravan doesn't need anything done to it, she couldn't wait to “change it up a little bit – cover those cushions, get rid of of those curtains and just modernise it a little bit”.

“It needs a little bit of pizzazz,” she concluded, as she asked people for any “inspo” for the makeover project.

People were quick to comment on the video, with many of them travellers thanking Jess for sharing such a positive message amid the discrimination they often suffer.

“Thank you for sticking up for our community,” one wrote.

“This is actually lovely,” another added.

“Thank you for such a lovely positive message!”

“As a traveller myself, thank you for sticking up for our community,” a third wrote.

Facts on gypsy and traveller communities

Typically, gypsies is a term used to describe Romani people who migrated to Europe from India while traveller refers to a person with either Irish, Scottish orEnglish heritage.

Around 300,000 Gypsy, Roma and Irish travellers are thought to live in the UK.

All three groups come from nomadic ways of life, however, as it is increasingly difficult to find land to live on, many are moving into permanent housing.

They place high value on family life and often live close together even after reaching adult years and getting married.

Often the men are the breadwinners of the family while the women stay home.

While many English gypsy girls are allowed to drinkalcoholand go on holiday with their friends before they get married, their Irish counterparts are not.

“People are way to quick to judge!”

“Thank you for sticking up for our community,” someone else said.

“You get good and bad in everyone but there's one thing for sure is we are clean people.”

And others insisted they would have no issues buying a caravan from a traveller like Jess.

“Have you never seen traveler tok?” one wrote.

“Those absolute queens put us all to shame. Sparkling houses and still have fabulous nails.

“Not to mention the kindness. I’m a woman but want to marry a traveler woman!”

“Travellers are good people. No need for the hate!” another added.

“Travellers take great care of their caravans, I don’t think they even use the toilet/showers in them,” a third said.

“Best people to buy from! Looks great.”

“I was only thinking to myself yesterday that I’d only buy from a traveller,” someone else added.

“Because imagine how clean and well taken care of it would be!”
