‘Please nooo’ people cry as mum shows off her 8-month-old twins’ dinner they could choke on & there’s another danger too

A MUM-OF-TWO has caused controversy after giving her eight-month-old twins steak for their dinner.

Brittany Miller is mother to twins Emiliano and Elijah, and regularly shares videos of her parenting journey on her social media pages.

She was quickly slammed in the comments, with people insisting the meat posed a choking risk to the babies

She recently started baby led weaning (BLW) with her sons, but has found herself under fire after posting a clip showing her giving her boys large pieces of the chewy meat and broccoli for their tea.

Before handing her kids the plate of food, Brittany explained: “Obviously the steak is to chew on, and they can suck all the juices out, basically, and the goodness”.

She then put the plates down on the boys' trays, with the babies excitedly reaching for the food in the video she shared on TikTok, which has had a staggering 3.2 million views.

Turning the camera round to show the boys enjoying their “first evening meal”, influencer Brittany pointed out that Emiliano couldn't get enough of the well done steak, and kept picking it up every time he dropped it.

Elijah seemed less convinced by the meat, although appeared to have enjoyed the broccoli, judging by his plate when he'd finished.

However, the comments section was almost immediately filled with people insisting the steak posed a choking risk for the boys.

“Omg steak is so chokey! Are you serious?” one gasped.

With Brittany hitting back: “Yes I'm serious.

“It’s called BLW – Baby led weaning. Look into it before you pass judgement.”

“Please nooooo,” another groaned.

“I don’t even give my 2 year old big pieces like that..” a third insisted.

“Oh god no.. why would u think that’s okay?” someone else said.

“That’s so dangerous!” another wrote.

“One little bit of that steak breaks off and they would choke to death.

“Grown adults have died choking on steak – how super irresponsible.”

“So how is that steak going fill them up?” someone else questioned.

What is baby led weaning?

Starting your baby on food can be a daunting, scary process.

And while mums have depended for years on purees and soft, easy to eat foods for their babies, there's another approach that often causes controversy.

Namely baby led weaning (BLW).

Instead of spoon-feeding your baby pureed or mashed foods, BLW means offering them “only finger foods and letting them feed themselves from the start”, the NHS explained.

“You can offer a range of small, finger-sized pieces of food,” they added.

“Some parents prefer baby-led weaning to spoon feeding, while others combine a bit of both.

“There's no right or wrong way – the most important thing is that your baby eats a wide variety of food and gets all the nutrients they need.”

“You're going to starve them if you don’t feed them baby food.”

“Christ. Food under 1 years old is for development, motor skills and fun,” an exasperated Brittany replied.

“They still have 5 feeds of milk a day.

“I will be dropping to 4 feeds once I'm confident they are taking in enough food.”

“No matter how many people tell you this is the way baby lead weaning should be, I still would never give my baby a strip of STEAK,” someone else marvelled.

“Even I have trouble eating it sometimes!”

However, others defended Brittany, with one insisting: “People in these comments have no idea how to do baby led weaning and it shows.

“This meal is absolutely fine!”

“People on here seriously need to look up and research BABY LED WEANING,” another agreed.

“They’re not your kids are they. Leave her alone!”

“I did BLW with my son, he didn’t touch purées, he had all these kinds of food, guess what?” a third wrote.

“He’s 2, never choked in his life and not one bit of a fussy eater! She is their mum!”

“Leave the women alone!!” someone else said.

“Probably one of the best mums I see on this app!! Her boys are so well looked after!!”

And, according to baby led weaning specialists Solid Starts, steak is the perfect food to give tots from the age of just six months old.

“The safest way to introduce steak to babies 6 mos+, is to offer large pieces or offer it on the bone,” they said.

“Worried baby will bite off a too-big piece of meat? Know that baby’s body is designed to protect itself from choking.

“Stay calm and give baby a chance to work with it. In most cases, baby will spit it out or the gag reflex will thrust it forward.”

But someone else insisted there was another aspect of Brittany's post that posed a danger to the boys – namely where they were sitting for their dinner.

“It's not the food giving me anxiety, it's the seats on the unit that is so dangerous!” another admitted.
