NAF airstrikes destroy terrorists’ gun trucks, kill many in Borno

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed the destruction of four terrorists' gun trucks and the killing of multiple insurgents in airstrikes carried out at Warawara, near Wajiroko, and Chinene in the Mandara Mountains of Borno State.

The operations, conducted on March 26, 2025, targeted key terrorist strongholds as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East.

According to NAF’s Deputy Spokesman, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the strikes were based on intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions that revealed terrorist activities, including the stockpiling of weapons and planting of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) around Wajiroko.

Surveillance later tracked their movements to a hidden location containing a gun truck, ammunition stockpiles, and fuel reserves.

In response, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) launched multiple waves of air interdiction. The initial strike targeted the terrorists' logistics hub, destroying vehicles and key supplies, while subsequent attacks continued with rocket and cannon fire, eliminating additional threats.

Later that same day, NAF jets struck another terrorist enclave at Chinene in the Mandara Mountains, where intelligence had indicated that insurgents had regrouped after a previous air raid on Degbewa on March 16.

Reconnaissance flights confirmed the presence of terrorist structures, prompting further airstrikes that set their hideouts ablaze. Fleeing insurgents were also engaged and neutralized.

Battle Damage Assessments confirmed the destruction of four terrorist gun trucks, two Toyota Hilux vehicles, and several makeshift shelters.

The strikes significantly weakened the insurgents’ operational capabilities, forcing them to abandon their positions.

Group Captain Ali emphasized that the successful operation highlights NAF’s continued commitment to neutralizing terrorist threats, disrupting their logistics, and ensuring national security.

He reaffirmed that sustained pressure on insurgent groups remains a priority in restoring peace to the region.
