NBC bans Eedris Abdulkareem’s anti-Tinubu song

The Nigerian government has banned singer Eedris Abdulkareem’s new protest song, ‘Tell Your Papa.'

Announcing the ban on Thursday evening, the Federal Government, through the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, stated that the song is inappropriate and offensive.

In a memo signed by the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, NBC directed Nigerian radio and television stations to refrain from airing the song.

According to the memo: “The National Broadcasting Commission has identified ‘Tell Your Papa’ song by Eedris Abdulkareem, currently trending on social media, as content deemed inappropriate for broadcast following its objectionable nature.

“It is therefore classified as Not To Be Broadcast, NTBB, as it violates Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. The content is considered inappropriate, offensive, or in breach of public decency.”;

DAILY POST reports that ‘Tell Your Papa’, which was released earlier this week, has sparked debate online due to its critical stance on Nigeria’s leadership and economic conditions.

The song directly addresses President Tinubu's son, Seyi Tinubu, urging him to speak to his father about the hardships faced by Nigerians.
