Newcastle target Jarell Quansah in £30million transfer raid on Liverpool to kickstart summer spree

Trent Alexander-Arnold has agreed terms on a move to Real Madrid this summer, according to reports

NEWCASTLE UNITED are targeting a summer move for Jarell Quansah as they look to take the next step in their development following their Carabao Cup success.

Magpies chiefs are reportedly keen on signing Quansah to boost their right centre-back position following failed bids for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in the summer.

That's according to The Times, who claim that Newcastle believe a bid of £30million plus add-ons would be enough to tempt Liverpool into selling the 22-year-old.

Quansah has struggled to nail down a starting position with Liverpool this season, playing from the off just twice in the Premier League.

And Newcastle are thought to believe that the prospect of more regular minutes in the north east could convince Quansah to jump ship.

It's claimed that Newcastle were interested in Quansah last summer too, enquiring about the defender during negotiations with Liverpool over a possible departure for Anthony Gordon.

The Times claim that Newcastle were willing to pay north of £50m for Quansah last summer.

Quansah, who has risen through the academy ranks with Liverpool, has made 55 first-team appearances for The Reds since his debut in August 2023.

While he has recently been considered for the England national team with three callups in the last 12 months, but is yet to earn his first cap.

Quansah still has four years left on his deal at Anfield, which he only penned in October of last year.

Liverpool already look set to lose one star defender, after it emerged this week that Trent Alexander-Arnold is on the brink of sealing his free transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Newcastle are preparing for an important transfer window following their first major trophy in 70 years.

Eddie Howe‘s side are expected to be more active this summer after needing to carefully tread the line of Profit and Sustainability over the past three transfer windows.

In that time, the Magpies have sold significantly more than they have bought in as they tried to avoid breaching PSR and being slapped with a points deduction.

Should Newcastle finish in the Champions League places it will only strengthen their position heading into the summer window.

Alongside a right-sided centre-back, the Tyneside club are understood to be keen on signing a right-sided forward and a goalkeeper in the upcoming window.

It's thought that Newcastle are confident of keeping hold of their best players too, despite swirling rumours around an exit for star man Alexander Isak.

Isak, who has scored 19 goals in 25 Prem games this season, has been linked with a spectacular £150MILLION move to one of Arsenal or Liverpool.

But the Toon are keen to keep hold of their man and are reportedly trying to tie him down to a lucrative new deal.

Speaking to Swedish media during the international break, Isak said: “There’s not much to say, really. I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times.

“It’s been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I’m not thinking about the future.

“I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games. That’s where my focus lies.”;
