Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has sparked a heated debate on social media after accusing a Christian organization of spreading false narratives about religious violence in Nigeria.
In a post on X, Ahmad alleged that a recent photo shared by Global Christian Relief; a nonprofit that supports persecuted Christians worldwide—was misleading and misrepresented the victims shown.
The NGO had posted an image of several bodies prepared for burial with the caption: “The Christian community is being massacred in Nigeria. This is a story that desperately needs more attention.”;
But Ahmad swiftly challenged the authenticity of the narrative and the identity of the victims depicted.
“This propaganda against Muslims has reached an alarming and disturbing level,” he wrote.
“They now shamelessly use images of massacred Muslim victims to falsely portray them as Christians killed by Muslims.”
“What kind of injustice is that? How low must one go to twist the truth and exploit the pain of innocent victims to push such a dangerous and divisive narrative?”;
Ahmad then called for a collective stand against what he described as intentional disinformation.
“This deliberate attack on truth must be called out and condemned by all people of conscience,”; he said.
Ahmad's reaction has drawn a wave of responses online, with users debating the authenticity of the image and the implications of religiously charged misinformation in Nigeria’s fragile security climate.
