The Niger State House of Assembly has passed the 2025 budget for the 25 local government councils in Niger State, amounting to N151,721,702,602.11.

The budget breakdown includes N96,286,909,470.58 for recurrent expenditure and N55,434,793,131.53 for capital expenditure.

The House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, chaired by Alhaji Bello Bako, stated that the committee engaged with representatives from the Ministry for Local Government and the Planning Commission to ensure adherence to financial rules and regulations.

Bako noted that insecurity in some areas had hindered revenue collection, leading to unrealistic projections.

According to him, “To address this, we recommended that local governments establish sound revenue mechanisms, block leakages, and improve capital allocations to impact the lives of citizens”.

The Speaker, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, commended the Committee for their diligence and assured that they would intensify oversight to ensure effective budget implementation.

After careful consideration, the House unanimously adopted the budget bill.

Speaker Sarkin-Daji then directed the clerk of the House to transmit a clean copy to the Executive for assent.
