Niger: Police reiterate commitment for peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration

Published on March 28, 2025 at 05:19 PM

The Niger State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to providing adequate security for a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna, directed officers to adopt proactive measures, including intelligence-led policing and raids on black spots, to ensure a seamless and peaceful celebration.

To achieve this, the PRO explained that the Command has outlined several strategies. Anti-riot water cannons, gun trucks, and patrol vehicles will be deployed to ensure visible policing and dominate public spaces.

He also said that tactical teams, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Tactical Support Team, and Anti-Kidnapping Unit, will be deployed to Eid grounds, recreation centers, and other strategic public places.

According to him, an Operation Order has been issued to Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and DPOs, outlining their specific responsibilities to provide reliable security coverage and ensure the free flow of traffic.

The Command urged members of the public, parents, and guardians to ensure their wards celebrate responsibly and avoid any acts of thuggery or youth disorder, adding that anyone found fomenting trouble will be dealt with according to the law.

It then wished all Muslim faithful in the state a joyous and hitch-free celebration.

For any complaints or observations, the public can contact the Command through the following numbers: 07031964389, 080753916010, or 08032233454.
