1. Petrol marketers across the Lagos metropolis at the weekend raised the pump price of the commodity to between N925 per litre and N935 per litre. This is in response to the increase in the landing cost of petrol, the stoppage by Dangote Refinery of the sales of the commodity in naira about two weeks ago and the delay in conclusion of negotiation on the naira for crude policy.
2. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has disclosed that he had a one on one discussion with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike before removing the FCT administration from the Treasury Single Account, TSA. Speaking when the Minister led a delegation from the FCT to the Presidential Villa on Sunday, Tinubu commended Wike for the innovation he has brought to the administration of the territory.
3. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians not to resort to insult in expressing their grievances to their leaders. According to him, it is good to always tell “our leaders truth when there is a problem but in doing so, we should avoid abusive words”.
4. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on Sunday, strongly condemned the killing of 16 hunters in Edo State, vowing that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. This is as the Edo State government announced that Governor Monday Okpehbolo had reached out to the victims’ families, the Hausa community leaders in the state, and the northern governors about the incident.
5. Former National and West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, died after collapsing during a boxing match in Ghana on Saturday. Olanrewaju lost consciousness while facing Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at Bukom Boxing Arena.
6. The Special Assistant to the suspended Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, Jerry Omotsegunwa, has stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has yet to be informed by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, about the cause of their ongoing political hostilities. In an interview, Omotsegunwa said Wike had not clarified the reason behind his anger towards Fubara.
7. Three Nigerians based in the United States of America, Olumide Olorunfunmi, Samson Amos and Emmanuel Unuigbe, could be sentenced to a combined jail term of 60 years for alleged money laundering to the tune of $4.5m. it was learnt in a statement by the US Department of Justice obtained on Sunday that the trio conspired among themselves to launder money which caused losses to about 125 victims in the US.
8. Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered a thorough investigation into the death of 24-year-old upcoming artist, Paul Obukohwo. The directive was announced on Sunday in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who urged the deceased’s family to visit the police headquarters to initiate the probe.
9. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated that the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibom Ibas is only dismantling all the governance structures put in place by the suspended Governor of the state, Siminialayi Fubara. The Chairman of PDP in the state, Nname Ewor, spoke while reacting to allegations made by former Rivers HoS Dr. George Nwaeke, against Fubara, PDP and Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
10. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has reported the death of a deaf pedestrian after two Suzuki mini-commercial buses (Korope) collided in Lagos. Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa,confirmed the incident in a statement by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, on Sunday.
