Published on March 23, 2025 at 10:00 AM

At least, nine vigilantes, known locally as Askarawa, lost their lives in Zamfara State after being ambushed by bandits in Anka Local Government Area on Saturday.

According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X on Sunday, the vigilantes had earlier participated in a successful joint operation with security forces, engaging heavily armed bandits in a forest battle and achieving a major victory.

However, while returning from the operation, they were ambushed by another group of bandits, resulting in multiple casualties among them.

The fallen vigilantes were members of the Community Protection Guards, a security outfit established by Governor Dauda Lawal to support the fight against banditry and complement the efforts of other security agencies in Zamfara State.
