No ban on electric bicycles in Adamawa, only motorcycles affected – Police

Published on April 20, 2025 at 05:50 AM

The Adamawa State Police Command has officially clarified that there is no ban on the use of electric bicycles (also known as rechargeable bikes) in the state, contrary to circulating rumors.

This clarification came after a meeting between the Association of Electric Bicycle Users and Hon. Ahmed Lawan, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Peace and Security.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Moris Dankwambo, the Divisional Police Officer of Karewa Division addressed the issue during a press briefing in Jimeta.

He emphasized that the only restriction being enforced is the existing ban on motorcycles, which dates back to the administration of former Governor Murtala Nyako.

Electric bike users had raised concerns about harassment by some security personnel, who mistakenly included rechargeable bikes in the ban.

During the courtesy visit, the association urged the state government to protect their rights and acknowledge electric bikes as an affordable transport alternative amid rising fuel costs.

Hon. Ahmed Lawan assured the group of the government’s support and called on users to respect traffic rules.

He also appreciated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his openness to addressing the matter.

Users like Yusuf Yunusa and Usman Abdulahi commended the government and security agencies for the clarification, which they say will ease transportation challenges for many residents.
