No reprisal attacks for Uromi killing – Youths slam peddlers of fake news

Published on April 01, 2025 at 10:44 PM

The Northern Youth Assembly and the Inter-Tribe Community Support Forum have denied claims of any reprisal attacks following the gruesome killings in Uromi, Edo State.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Kano on Tuesday, Comr. Suleiman Idris, Chairman of the Northern Youth Assembly, and Nworisa Michael, Coordinator of the Inter-Tribe Community Support Forum, addressed the spread of fake news regarding the incident.

They specifically refuted reports that Mr. Peter Chukwudi Nwanosike had died from a stabbing.

According to the groups, Nwanosike collapsed and passed away while fleeing from the attackers, who were phone snatchers.

“Mr. Nwanosike was assaulted by phone snatchers (commonly referred to as ‘yan kwacen waya’) on Sunday, March 30, 2025, alongside several other victims,” they clarified.

The groups condemned the circulation of false information, which they said heightened tensions, fueled division, and disrupted peace.

They urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims.

The Northern Youth Assembly and Inter-Tribe Community Support Forum commended Edo State Governor, H.E. Monday Okphebolo, for his swift condemnation of recent incidents of jungle justice in the state.

The groups also expressed their gratitude to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his decisive actions in forming a high-powered committee to address the crisis.
