A fresh wave of anti-Hamas sentiment was reported in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, as hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets of Beit Lahiya to protest both the ongoing war and the militant group’s rule.
According to local media outlets, demonstrators carried signs reading “Stop the aggression,”; “We want to live in freedom,”; and chanted “No to terror, yes to peace.”;
This marks the latest in a series of rare but growing public protests in Gaza directed at Hamas, despite the group’s tight grip on the territory.
In recent weeks, residents of Beit Lahiya have repeatedly demonstrated, risking retaliation from Hamas operatives who have reportedly attempted to detain or harm protestors.
While protests in Gaza are uncommon due to fear of reprisal, recent events suggest increasing frustration among civilians over the humanitarian crisis, destruction, and continued violence.
