Northern youths demand immediate action to curb killings in Plateau

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has said it is deeply alarmed and distressed by the continued killings and acts of violence in Plateau State.

Isah Abubakar, National President of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, in a statement on Tuesday, said, “Recent developments have highlighted a tragic pattern of bloodshed that has devastated communities and robbed families of their loved ones.”

“This relentless wave of violence is not only unacceptable but also a gross violation of the fundamental right to life and security.”

The youths called on the federal government to take immediate and decisive action to halt the crisis, suggesting that it is imperative that the authorities prioritize the safety of citizens by not only condemning these heinous acts but also ensuring that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

“Impunity cannot be permitted to prevail; the time for action is now,” the statement explained.

Abubakar urged the youth leaders in Plateau to be prepared to protect themselves against external abuse, since it seems the government can no longer protect them.

He added that the community must be ready to defend their territories from annihilation, stressing that the Nigeria of today is no longer the Nigeria of yesterday, where the government provides protection. Rather, it is a Nigeria where communities must arm themselves and protect themselves.

Abubakar advised, “Northern Nigeria should unite against these menacing forces that threaten our peace, stability, and future. It is crucial that we come together, regardless of our backgrounds, to stand firm against the evil that seeks to divide and destroy our communities by protecting ourselves.”

He stated that Nigerians cannot remain silent while innocent lives are lost, calling for solidarity among all northern youths to raise their voices, advocate for peace, and collaborate in demanding accountability from those in power.

“Only through unity can we hope to restore peace and harmony in the North and North Central regions,” he opined.

He assured, “We are with the people of Plateau during these trying times.”
