NPFL: Loss to Abia Warriors won’t derail Rivers United’s CAFCL quest – Finidi

Published on April 14, 2025 at 04:39 PM

Rivers United head coach Finidi George has dismissed suggestions that his team could miss out on a top-two finish in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.

The Port Harcourt club lost 2-0 to third-placed Abia Warriors in a matchday 33 encounter in Umuahia on Sunday.

Rivers United, who occupy second position in the table, have a two-point lead over Abia Warriors.

The top two teams on the table will compete in the CAF Champions League next season.

Finidi is adamant his side will finish ahead of Abia Warriors.

“No, no, no! We’re two points ahead of them. They’re playing away, while other teams like us are playing at home in the next game. We’re going to win our game and stretch the gap to five points,”; Finidi said confidently after the game.

“I’m not too worried about that. I’m confident we’ll win at home. They (Abia Warriors) won at home, so we definitely are going to win at home.”
