NPFL: Rangers boss Ilechukwu gives up on title chase

Published on March 30, 2025 at 08:10 PM

Rangers technical adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has given up on his team's chances of defending the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, title.

The Flying Antelopes won the NPFL title last season but now sit 15 points behind league leaders Remo Stars.

Fidelis Ilechukwu's side suffered their 10th defeat of the campaign against Plateau United last week.

Ilechukwu attributed his team's struggles to injuries and the departure of key players.

“There’s no problem with Rangers—it’s just football. Even Manchester City are the English Premier League defending champions, but ask yourself, what is happening there now?”; Ilechukwu told Complete Sports.

“Every team faces challenges. Right now, we are using our third set of midfielders. We’ve lost many players to injuries—Kazeem Ogunleye and some strikers too.

“Those playing now were meant to be gradually integrated into the squad, but football forced us to accelerate their development. They’ve tried, but they haven’t converted the chances they got.”;
