Nuclear deal: Russian, Iranian foreign ministries discuss negotiations

Published on April 02, 2025 at 06:46 PM

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi on Wednesday discussed ongoing negotiations regarding Tehran's nuclear programme with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Ryabkov.

Both sides addressed joint steps to stabilise the situation and reduce the tensions that have been artificially and unreasonably inflamed by Western countries.

According to the ministry, the use of military force against Iran and threats to strike its nuclear infrastructure would be illegal and unacceptable, as they would cause large-scale and irreversible radiological and humanitarian consequences for the Middle East and the world.

It announced on Wednesday that Israel plans to seize large parts of Gaza as part of a major expansion of military operations in the enclave.

The Kremlin, earlier this year, offered to mediate between the United States and Iran, with which Moscow signed a strategic partnership treaty in January.

President Donald Trump of the United States, in his first remarks since Iran rejected direct negotiations with Washington, said over the weekend that Tehran could face bombing and secondary tariffs if it did not reach an agreement over its nuclear programme.
