Oodie pyjama review: I tried these cooling PJs and they kept me cool on the hottest night of the year

Published on April 11, 2025 at 04:00 AM

AS the nights grow warmer, I've been presented with the perfect opportunity to ditch heavy winter pyjamas for something cooler, lighter and more stylish.

Australian-born brand The Oodie, beloved by many (including us at Sun Shopping) for its fleece-lined hooded blankets, is now turning heads with a brand-new pyjama range.

I've done an Oodie pyjama review to see if a pair of PJs can actually make a difference during the warm summer nights — and whether they're worth their eyebrow-raising price tag.

I tested out Oodie's newest pyjamas in the cooling edition

Oodie claims its jammies are designed with innovative cooling technology, ensuring you can keep your PJs on no matter the season.

Made from spun beech trees, one of the softest fabrics on earth, they're supposedly a game-changer for hot sleepers, boasting a fabric blend that’s 21% more breathable than regular cotton.

The fabric wicks sweat 85% better than cotton, so you can heat up to your heart's content and still wake up feeling fresh, no matter the season.

Prefer to stay snug and warm? Oodie has released warming pyjamas too, made from a brushed bamboo blend that is meant to be twice as warm as high-street cotton options while offering antibacterial and odour-resistant perks.

The brand expects them to sell out quickly, especially with a buy-two-get-20%-off deal currently running on its website.

Pros:

  • Soft
  • Extremely breathable and airy
  • Stretchy
  • Elastic waistband for support and comfort
  • Range of styles available
  • Mix and match long/short sleeves and shorts or leggings

Cons:

  • Slightly expensive
  • A plain, unprinted option would be nice

Rating: 8/10

The PJs come in a range of colours and prints, with the option to mix and match long- and short-sleeved tops with shorts and trousers

How I tested the Oodie pyjamas

I'm becoming something of a sleep connoisseur, having recently written a . I've also been , meaning I'm primed for a good night's kip.

However, the one thing I am less fussed about is pyjamas — after all, how much can they reallyimpact a good night's sleep?

To find out, I cranked up the heat during a week of sunny spring nights by combining the PJs with a teddy bear duvet set and an electric blanket to put the cooling qualities to the test.

Oodie pyjama review: Quickfire Q&A

How muchare the Oodie pyjamas? The pyjamas don't come in sets so that you can mix and match different combinations. The tops are £35 for the short-sleeved and £39 for the long-sleeved, the shorts are £35 and the trousers are £39. The current buy-two-get-20%-off deal means you can get shorts and a short-sleeved T-shirt for £56 with free delivery.

Who are they best for? The cooling range is ideal for anyone who prefers a cooler night's sleep and for those dealing with night sweats, as the breathable, anti-bacterial fabric does supply a cooling, fresh feeling.

What we loved:The quality and lightweight stretch fabric specifically offered by the long-sleeve t-shirt. The pyjamas really do offer exactly what is promised in terms of a temperature-regulated night's sleep.

What we didn't: The price (without the 20% discount) can be slightly off-putting, with the most expensive combination cashing in at £78.

Oodie pyjama review: The Nitty Gritty

First impressions

The pyjamas come packaged in a bow, ready to gift

I’m not one for splashing out on pyjamas, so I was sceptical as to whether a pair at the higher end of the price range could really make me want to splurge.

Unfortunately for my bank account, I was proved wrong.

My initial thought was that the PJs would make a perfect gift, as they come packaged in bright orange recyclable bags stating “Your life is about to get a whole lot better”; and are tied up neatly like a present in a blue silky ribbon.

The second thing I noticed was the stretchy and airy quality of the long-sleeve top, which felt heavy when I held it in my hand but then extremely lightweight and slinky when I put it on.

The shorts felt light, with an elastic waistband aiding a snug fit without feeling at all restrictive.

Sceptical of how much a fabric can regulate temperature, I put the Aussie fabric tech to the test with an extra hot sleep.

I woke up the next morning feeling fresh, light and surprisingly cool, with the long-sleeve pyjama top being the real winning component of the set.

If you're looking to save a bit of cash, you could just buy the long-sleeve t-shirt as that is where the real temperature-regulatory features were noticed.

The colour scheme also took me by surprise.

I usually settle for very plain, inoffensive sleepwear, but found the fit and design not only cooling but also flattering (especially with a tan!)

You can choose to mix and match between long or short sleeves and shorts or trousers — I went for shorts and a slightly oversized fit long tee.

Does it deliver?

Initially a cynic when it comes to expensive nightwear, I have to say my mind has been changed, and I look forward to coming home from work and donning my bright blue cloud print pyjamas.

The real test will be a sticky and humid hot summer night abroad, but for the Great British weather, these do just the trick.

The pyjamas are slinky, breathable and sweat-repelling, and they allow for a peaceful temperature-regulated night's sleep.

Few of Oodies competitors offer this level of ergonomic perfection, and the brand does have a strong reputation behind it, which it has upheld in its pyjamas.

How much are Oodie pyjamas?

The slinky, silky stretch material of the top was one of the most notable qualities

It’s undeniable that £75 for a pair of pyjamas does lean more on the expensive side, with a long-sleeve and long-trouser combination cashing in at £78, whereas a shorts and short-sleeve combination will save you £8, coming in at £70.

However, after experiencing the specially crafted materials that make up the pyjamas, the price doesn’t feel like such a sting after all.

Better yet, shoppers can spare some change this spring with the buy-two-get-20%-off deal, making a shorts and t-shirt set cost just £56 with free delivery.

Where to buy Oodie pyjamas

Oodie pyjamas are available straight from the official site, where you will find discounts such as buy-two-get-20%-off or where you can shop the 50%-off Easter sale.

Oodie also offers deals and flash sales throughout the year, such as the Black Friday sale, which welcomed up to 60% off in 2024 and the , which sees 4,000 oodies up for grabs at just £1.

Oodie pyjama alternatives

There aren’t many technologically enhanced PJs on the scene right now, but other brands offering PJs with cooling qualities include ModiBodi and WUKA.

Can we mention these as well?

However, alternatives are lacking when it comes to The Oodie's mix-and-match qualities as well as its selection of prints.
